Poland announced on Wednesday morning that it had shot down several Russian drones that had entered its airspace, describing the incident as an “act of aggression.”
Alarm in Europe: Russian Drones Cross the Border, Poland Shoots Them Down Immediately

According to the Polish military, the violations occurred repeatedly as Russia launched a new wave of attacks on Ukraine, even near the Polish border. Prime Minister Donald Tusk responded promptly via a post on X (formerly Twitter), confirming the downing of the drones and emphasizing that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte had been informed of the development. “This is an act of aggression that posed a real threat to the safety of our citizens,” stated the Operational Command of the Polish Army.
As a security measure, authorities closed four airports, including the main one in Warsaw. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also announced the closure of Rzeszów–Jasionka Airport in the southeast, which is strategically important for passenger transport and supplies to Ukraine.
Reports indicate that there were no casualties on Polish territory, and the exact number of Russian drones involved in the incident remains unclear. The military is currently searching for their remains.
This development has significantly heightened tensions in Warsaw and within NATO, while the Russian Ministry of Defense has yet to comment on the matter. Ukrainian Air Force forces reported that nearly the entire country was under air alert in the early morning hours, including the western regions near the Polish border.
